One of the things that made the UK stand out in the late eighties was our ability to not be ruled be restrictive "genre walls"; call it the original Balearic spirit if you will. This second installment of Delirious Influences attempts to capture some of that musical diversity with a selection born out of Chicago, Detroit, New York, Miami, Manchester, Sheffield, London and of course San Rafael in Ibiza.
House, Techno, Garage, Nu Wave, Acid, Tribal, Miami Deep, Breakbeat - good memories ensured for those who should know better and a great musical journey for those new to some of these tracks.

Linda Lewis - Sideways Shuffle (Leftside Wobble Edit)
Linda Lewis's Sideways Shuffle is one of my favourite old funk tracks. In particular I love the way steel drums give the track a real carnival atmosphere.
This edit is a simple affair that draws out and extends the intro and beefs up the rhythm track a tad. By the time the song kicks in, it's a bit of a surprise and provides a real lift.

Delirious Influences part 1
In mid eighties London there were a group of clubs that held sway for the musically adventurous; The Mud Club, Raw and City of Angels to name a few, but one club in particular had a lasting impact on me and that was Noel and Maurice Watson's Delirium. It had that essential mix of cool kids and fashion but with a raw street edge. Musically the club originally played a mix of Hip Hop and Electro but they always had a sense of musical innovation and so Delirium was one of the first places I heard House music in both its New York and Chicago guises (much to the disapproval of much of the 2,500 regular crowd, who would bottle the DJ booth whenever the groove moved into House territory!). So in honour of Noel and Maurice's influence on my future musical tastes I've put together a series of mixes charting my early pilgrimages in search of the repetitive beat.
Many thanks to Louis of the consistently top-notch Dublin Bus Disco for inspiring me to put this series of mixes together.
