Piccadilly Review

Underground legend, house veteran and musical encyclopedia Leftside Wobble is back with another diverse selection of killer edits and updates for your record box. His edit pedigree is second to none with the reel to reel rocking Greg Wilson giving maximum props to his Beatles "Tomorrow Never Knows" rework, while Piccadilly's own Patch and Silvestre caned his "Angel In My Pocket" regularly at their Discofutura night. Establishing X-Cursions as a celebration of the eclectic in dance music, the producer launches the inaugural release free from any genre constraint. The first EP contains a classic Loleatta Holloway disco edit, an Ike & Tina Turner balearic soul rework, and an Arthur Baker style electro funk track that's already an ever present for Bill Brewster and Justin Robertson.

Leftside Wobble kicks the release off with "Dub & Run", a Ronseal styled dub rework of Loleatta's evergreen "Hit & Run", which he stretches into an almighty groove complete with echo and multilayered vocals and guitars. It's lino-time on the flip as Leftside Wobble hits us with the electro snap, crackle and pop of "Boogie Box Droids", a freestyle sampling, Arthur Baker-esque cut featuring the best use of a speak 'n spell since the Oscar nominated "Theory Of Everything". Last but not least, LW fires up the hardware arsenal to wire up a wonked out cosmic rework of Ike & Tina's sublime Stevie Wonder cover. This perfectly judged rework adds just the right amount of backward guitar, psychedelic echo and kosmische keyboard to twist melons inside out, while the lopsided synth bass reminds me of the finest Create Use edits from way back when.

Temples - Shelter Song (Leftside Wobble Rocks The Discoteque Mix)

Another trip into my blatant disregard for genre pigeonholes with this remix for Heavenly Recordings. Best described as ESG meets The Beatles via DJ Pierre! Only available as a free download for a few weeks ahead of vinyl release in a around six weeks so get in quick. I'll be sure play this amongst other twisted disco delights tonight (Friday 16th May) at Trapeze in Shoreditch - d.pr/QeyM

Pocket Angel (2014 Rework) 2 million plays free download

I hit 2 million plays on SoundCloud this week so I wanted to give something special away. This was the first ever vinyl release I put out as Leftside Wobble and it has never before been made available as a digital download so grab it whilst you can as it won't be available for very long. It also happens to be the opening night of my new London residency tomorrow so you can grab the download over on the Acid Soul event page www.facebook.com/events/283799671796835/

Richard Earnshaw - Cry Me A River (Leftside Wobble Unreleased Dub)

Always my favourite version of Cry Me A River but it wasn't ready on time for the release so I thought it was about time to make it available as a free download. www.artistlink.com/home/products/460494

One Blood - Be Thankful (Leftside Wobble 12 Minute Rewind)

Whilst the Massive Attack & William DeVaughn versions of Be Thankful are better known, the One Blood version has always been my favourite. This is a bit of an end of the night classic for me so I've sliced & diced it into a super extended 12 minute version. Download Wav or 320k via www.facebook.com/acid.soul

Leftside Classics

With my new Acid Soul night starting on April 11th in London at Trapeze (the old East Village) I thought the time was right to put together a retrospective featuring some of the tracks that have meant the most to me over the last five years or so.

These are the tracks that somehow always find a way back into my sets, tracks that rise above the transient and tracks that defy limiting genre pigeonholes. My sets have always been about joining dots, celebrating the eclectic and supporting those tracks that exist in the rich hinterland between dub, funk, disco and house. Hopefully this retrospective captures that overriding ethos.

I've included a small selection of unreleased LW bits and a few exclusive versions of well known staples to keep things pushing forward too.

As ever hope you enjoy. x

p.s. Be sure to check out some of the other mixes on the Clandestino podcast page. The Andrew Weatherall/Sean Johnston one is particularly tasty.

Groovement Soul

Really fantastic mix from Keith Dalton of Dublin's Groovement Soul collective. A deep, funk fueled, soulful selection to get you ready for the weekends escapades.

And talking of Groovement Soul here's a rare live mix of me recorded at their ace loft party back in Sept 2012.

Marlena - Ghetto Woman (LW Edit) Free Download

As some of you may know, I've spent much of the last four months in hospital, but that's hopefully all over now. To welcome in the new year, here's a free download of that Marlena Shaw edit I did last year to warm the cockles and spread some cheer. Download details via the soundcloud page/player.

Enjoy. x

Carrot Green - Home or Abroad (Leftside Wobble Remix)

The folk behind the hugely popular Chopshop imprint have a new label launching this Autumn called Our Records and they got me onboard to remix a track from one of their signings - Carrot Green. Heavily influenced by my love of Kerri Chandler & Larry Heard productions this takes the deep jazzy vibe of the original and couples it with a heavy duty dub bassline and heavily filtered chord progressions.

Late night deep disco shenanigans...

Leftside Wobble - Express Yourself

The most joyously pure D.I.S.C.O. track I've produced since Pocket Angel. I'll probably release this on the same package as Ghetto Woman at some point in the near future.

Frankie Goes Deep

One of those occasional Soundcloud delights you come across. Frankie Goes Deep has been uploading stuff to SC for the last three years (very similar production style to Late Night Tuff Guy) and he keeps getting better. Check out the full archive - there's gold in them there hills! :)

Marlena - Ghetto Woman (Leftside Wobble Edit)

Forthcoming as part of my next edits EP. Respectful to the original, whilst being a tad more dancefloor friendly.

The Sequence - Funk You Up (Leftside Wobble Edit)

One of my favourite Sugarhill tracks regrooved, remastered and edited with love. Download for free via https://www.artistlink.com/home/products/245528

Esther Philips - All The Way Down (Leftside Wobble KGS Rework)

One of the first edits I put out on vinyl is being given a digital release by Kojak Giant Sounds in the coming weeks so I took the chance to reinterpret my original edit and give it a dirty, bumping new coat of paint.

Completely restructured the percussion and fuzzed up the bass to create a version that works just as well on house floors as well as funk fuelled disco ones. Definitely on tonights set list at Eclectic Discotech in Brighton.

Escort Remixed Compilation

Finally in store 18 months after I first produced it and part of an ace package of remixes that includes a number of other unreleased (or previously vinyl only) gems. Other highlights for me include both Greg Wilson's & Ewan Pearson's very different takes on 'Cocaine Blues', the two takes of 'Caméleon Chameleon', a stunning instrumental version of 'Forever' and Max Essa's great take on their first release 'Starlight'.

Preorder it from Juno Download - d.pr/m5zv

A quick thanks to both the Bionic crew & Dean 'Sunshine' Smith for inviting me play at their wonderful events last weekend. Onwards now to this Friday where I'll be playing alongside NYC's Nancy Whang (DFA Records) - so looking forward to her twisted box of tricks! - d.pr/hVmy
