Piccadilly Review

Underground legend, house veteran and musical encyclopedia Leftside Wobble is back with another diverse selection of killer edits and updates for your record box. His edit pedigree is second to none with the reel to reel rocking Greg Wilson giving maximum props to his Beatles "Tomorrow Never Knows" rework, while Piccadilly's own Patch and Silvestre caned his "Angel In My Pocket" regularly at their Discofutura night. Establishing X-Cursions as a celebration of the eclectic in dance music, the producer launches the inaugural release free from any genre constraint. The first EP contains a classic Loleatta Holloway disco edit, an Ike & Tina Turner balearic soul rework, and an Arthur Baker style electro funk track that's already an ever present for Bill Brewster and Justin Robertson.

Leftside Wobble kicks the release off with "Dub & Run", a Ronseal styled dub rework of Loleatta's evergreen "Hit & Run", which he stretches into an almighty groove complete with echo and multilayered vocals and guitars. It's lino-time on the flip as Leftside Wobble hits us with the electro snap, crackle and pop of "Boogie Box Droids", a freestyle sampling, Arthur Baker-esque cut featuring the best use of a speak 'n spell since the Oscar nominated "Theory Of Everything". Last but not least, LW fires up the hardware arsenal to wire up a wonked out cosmic rework of Ike & Tina's sublime Stevie Wonder cover. This perfectly judged rework adds just the right amount of backward guitar, psychedelic echo and kosmische keyboard to twist melons inside out, while the lopsided synth bass reminds me of the finest Create Use edits from way back when.

Ambient Jazz Ensemble - The Journey (Leftside Wobble 'Garden of Earthly Delights' Remix)

Just sit back and let this one slowly envelop you. From the gentle piano led intro, it builds to a rousing crescendo with the finest horn section you'll have heard in quite some time. Can't wait to play this one at sunset on the Beach Stage at The Garden Festival in a few weeks time. ;)

Due for release in the coming months.

Public Service Broadcasting - The Guardian Interview

There's an ace interview in today's Guardian with Public Service Broadcasting- http://xrl.us/bqj7eh - a band that I've been supporting from their earliest days. Last year they took the UK festival circuit by storm and now they're just about to embark on their first US tour.

My remix of Everest is still to be officially released but has become an anthem for those few DJ's that managed to nab a copy. Justin Robertson closed a good many of his 2012 sets with Everest and it even found it's way on to the set list of disco don Jim Stanton of Horse Meat Disco fame.

Really happy to be associated with such a great & inventive band. Let's hope they smash it in the US they way they have here in the UK for the last 18 months or so.

Chris Coco 'wind down' set. Summer Sound festival, Finland

Second week in a row for a Chris Coco posting. Recorded live at the Summer Sound festival in Finland; this is the best 'wind down' selection I've heard in quite some time. Beautiful stuff indeed...

Radiohead - Reckoner (Leftside Wobble Remix)

Thought this was worth a repost seeing as it's very much in the same space as my recent White Light mix.

Boris Carloff - Falling (Leftside Download)

I get a lot of weird and wonderful music sent to me that doesn't always fit into the usual Leftside Wobble output. So with that in mind here's the first in a series of exclusive free downloads: More on the artist at - http://boriscarloff.cz/?lang=en

MARIE MADELEINE - Love Suicide (Acid Arab Remix)

Watcha Clan - Les Hommes Libres

Happened across this on SoundCloud the other day and reminded myself how much I love this band. If you don't own 'Diaspora HiFi' their 2008 album, mend your errant ways!

Public Service Broadcasting - Everest (Leftside Wobble Remix)

Something a little different from me this week. Whilst it's not aimed at the dancefloor I'm really proud of this mix. Lemon Jelly meets New Order is probably the best description I've heard. It's strictly promo only for the moment but will see a proper release at some point next year. You can buy the original version via the iTunes link and make sure to check out the video link too - which links to their previous single, Spitfire (another track that is due for an official Leftside Wobble remix at some point next year).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_u4Md_aXVJE

Public Service Broadcasting are a London-based duo whose main ingredients are: 1) J. Willgoose, Esq. on guitars, banjos, other stringed instruments, samplings, electronic things; 2) Wrigglesworth on drums, pianos and other electronic things.

Taking samples from old public information films, archive footage and propaganda material, and mould them into 21st century songs.

Everest is based on the 1953 film 'The Conquest of Everest', which told the story of Hillary & Tensing successful ascent of the tallest mountain in the world, and which was directed by expedition member George Lowe.

The band have been getting major props from both 6 Music and XFM (amongst many others) and are preparing a major label album release for next year.

Just what you need to ease yourself into the week. Peter Kuder (of Kruder & Dorfmeister fame) blends his favourite blissed out Pink Floyd moments for just over an hour of horizontal heaven. Enjoy, this ones rather special. x

Very seldom does a 4 track EP come along where each & every track blows me away. Definitely one of my favourite releases in a very long time:
