Tron Uprising

Tron: Uprising 1 Beck's Beginning from tracius01 on Vimeo.

Get your torrent going for this. Tron Legacy was a major disappointment but this spin-off series is stunning. Can't believe that Disney only put this out on their XD kids channel. Best art direction I've seen in an animated series for years. Pity that Disney in their ultimate wisdom look like cancelling this even though it recently won the animation award at the Emmy's.

A four voice, four effect, five-note polyphony synth with integrated sequencer for $42 (and one that fits in a cassette case). But of course I just bought one! So very, very cool indeed...

Carrot Green - Home or Abroad (Leftside Wobble Remix)

The folk behind the hugely popular Chopshop imprint have a new label launching this Autumn called Our Records and they got me onboard to remix a track from one of their signings - Carrot Green. Heavily influenced by my love of Kerri Chandler & Larry Heard productions this takes the deep jazzy vibe of the original and couples it with a heavy duty dub bassline and heavily filtered chord progressions.

Late night deep disco shenanigans...

A Guy Called Gerald - Specific Hate

And talking of Manchester. I noticed that you can grab hold of this A Guy Called Gerald gem from 1989 for peanuts via Discogs second hand sellers http://tinyurl.com/owjvbx3. This was on the flip side of Gerald's first major label release and is a reworking of 808 States 'Pacific State', a track Gerald co-wrote (without credit) so he made this version to let the world know exactly what he thought of his former bandmates!

Played by a diverse set of DJ's at the time including Weatherall, Sasha, Grooverider & Laurent Garnier it still sounds great today.

Quando Quango - Love Tempo

Playing back in Manchester a week next thursday night for the first time in a year or so at a night called Bank at Joshua Brooks - http://tinyurl.com/okpc83s - Can't play in Manchester without giving one of Factory Records finest releases an airing!

Really looking forward to this one as I've heard great reports about the night.

Leftside Wobble - Express Yourself

The most joyously pure D.I.S.C.O. track I've produced since Pocket Angel. I'll probably release this on the same package as Ghetto Woman at some point in the near future.

Monday, 9 September 2013

The Bank - Lagos Tahoe (Leftside Wobble Mix) Preview - available now at Juno, Beatport, What People Play etc

Stevie Kotey (Bear Funk's head honcho) can always be relied upon to sign great leftfield dance music that pays no heed to current trends or fashions but that has lasting impact. The Bank are just such a signing, so I'm overjoyed at being part of such a great package. Other mixes come from disco legend Al Kent, Italian cosmic warriors The Mushroom Project and the bands own Frank Agrario. Buy the whole package as there's not a duff mix included.

Friday, 6 September 2013

Kan Sano - Everybody Loves The Sunshine (Leftside Wobble Carnival Mix)

Kan Sano's original cover version is so good (as you can hear from the snippet here) I decided to take this in a different direction and provide a Drum & Bass treatment as it seemed so suited to the source material.

Other remixes on the package come from Late Night Tuff Guy (who provides a treatment closer to the original) and two deep house reworks of 'Music Overflow' (the flip side from the original 7" that was released earlier this year for Record Store Day).

Early support from Gilles Peterson, Roberto Rodriguez, Pete Herbert, Rahaan, Sleazy Beats, OOFT!, Dirtytwo, Sleazy McQueen, Frank Booker, Edit Murphy, Marius VĂ„reid, Sixth Avenue Express, Dave Allison, Get Down Edits, Legendary 1979 Orchestra ...

Released today at JunoDownload - www.junodownload.com/products/kan-s…ne/2284923-02/

Leftside Wobble - Berlin Nights

Kraftwerkian percussion meets Jamaican dub bass & sumptuous disco strings for a deep house workout heavily influenced by my trips to Berlin. Probably going to stick this on the flip side of 'Need Your Love' when it's released later this year on one of my favourite Berlin based record labels 'Dirt Crew Recordings'.

'Headphone Holiday' memory

The Queen of Hoxton asked me for a holiday memory ahead of my gig there this Saturday with Norman Jay and this is what I wrote:

"The first time I went on holiday to America was in 1976 (I was eight years old). At the time I remember being more than a tad jealous of my cousin because he owned the very first 'boom box / ghetto blaster' I'd ever encountered (if memory serves right it was made by Marantz). We took this thing everywhere but my best memory was of going to Red Rock Amphitheatre in Colorado (just for the spectacle of the place, nobody was playing that day) and blasting ELO's Evil Woman out of the thing over and over again. And now nearly 40 years down the line, Evil Woman has become a staple for me when playing at festivals and such like (Inner West Soul did a cracking re-edit a few years back) and everytime I play it I'm transported back to that moment at Red Rock when I was eight."

They're down to the final 9 tickets so if fancy an afternoon in the sunshine with great music go grab em' here - http://www.wegottickets.com/event/234082

Mr Fingers - Can You Feel It (Jakobin & Domino Rework)

Not only a wonderful rework but a lovely humble touch in their write up for why they did it "The original is sublime and cannot be improved, this rework is only a tribute to one of our heroes." Their love for the music shows in the results.

Cry Me A River (Leftside Wobble Instrumental Remix)

Forgot to mention that this instrumental version of my Cry Me A River remix finally got a release a few months back and spent about 6 weeks on the top spot of the Lounge chart at Traxsource - go get it if you haven't already - http://www.traxsource.com/track/468640/cry-me-a-river-leftside-wobble-extended-instrumental

And here's an extended version of an Aphex Twin favourite from 1991 I've put together for the occasion.

Enjoy...

Kinky Girl (forthcoming mid July on the Sound & Vision EP)

An ode to those classic Italo tracks of the mid eighties that were a precursor to the early Detroit/Chicago sound. This will finally get a release in mid July as part of the Sound & Vision EP (including my recent Bowie rework).

The sample spotters amongst you will recognise elements from Charlie's 'Spacer Woman' and a couple from Klien & MBO as well as the rather twisted Rick James vocal.

Tuesday, 14 May 2013

James Johnston - Consumer EP

Morning all. Something super deep to ease you into your day. James Johnston yet again defying categorisation with a track that reminds of the the sort of stuff Ian O'Brien & Russ Gabriel used to put out. Jazz tinged, Detroit influenced deep house music of a very high quality. Very limited numbers on this vinyl only release so head on over to Juno - http://www.juno.co.uk/ppps/products/483710-01.htm

Sunday, 5 May 2013

Esther Philips - All The Way Down (Leftside Wobble KGS Rework)

One of the first edits I put out on vinyl is being given a digital release by Kojak Giant Sounds in the coming weeks so I took the chance to reinterpret my original edit and give it a dirty, bumping new coat of paint.

Completely restructured the percussion and fuzzed up the bass to create a version that works just as well on house floors as well as funk fuelled disco ones. Definitely on tonights set list at Eclectic Discotech in Brighton.

Escort Remixed Compilation

Finally in store 18 months after I first produced it and part of an ace package of remixes that includes a number of other unreleased (or previously vinyl only) gems. Other highlights for me include both Greg Wilson's & Ewan Pearson's very different takes on 'Cocaine Blues', the two takes of 'Caméleon Chameleon', a stunning instrumental version of 'Forever' and Max Essa's great take on their first release 'Starlight'.

Preorder it from Juno Download - d.pr/m5zv

A quick thanks to both the Bionic crew & Dean 'Sunshine' Smith for inviting me play at their wonderful events last weekend. Onwards now to this Friday where I'll be playing alongside NYC's Nancy Whang (DFA Records) - so looking forward to her twisted box of tricks! - d.pr/hVmy

Bedford Falls Players - Ballad Of Hardrock Falls (Ashley Beedle Mix)

This managed to somehow slip by me until Ashley kindly sent me a copy this week. One of my fave releases so far this year.

James Johnston - What You Do To me

I'm getting fed up with the current trend for making everything sound like it was produced in the early nineties in New Jersey but this James Johnston release is a pick above the vast majority of the lazy copycat stuff. Killer release & available to pre-order at Juno - http://www.juno.co.uk/products/482294-01.htm

Wednesday, 13 February 2013

Volta Cab - Always In The Place (Session Victim Mix)

Volta Cab has such an abundant vein of good grooves emanating from his musical bunker in the Ukraine you can be forgiven for missing the odd gem. This is most definitely the case here with this ace Session Victim remix from one of his current releases - get the vinyl from Juno: http://www.juno.co.uk/ppps/products/481120-01.htm

Tuesday, 12 February 2013

The most beautifully strange record I've heard in quite some time. Expect to hear this in Weatherall's more energetic moments in the coming months...

The White Lamp - Make It Good

Forgot to post about this when the white label was doing the rounds in the Autumn. It's finally getting it's official release after being included on Giles Petersens latest Brownswood Bubblers compilation. Summer anthem in the making... Andif you want to grab on digital now (ahead of it's official release) the original extended version can be nabbed here - http://www.junodownload.com/products/gilles-peterson-gilles-peterson-presents-brownswood-bubblers/2084278-02/

John Charnis - Prophecy

Really love the Innervisions 'Secret Weapons' series where they unearth and remaster lost classics in the making. This deep celestial number is my pick from part 5 (released on vinyl today). One of those tracks that will make so much sense dancing in the open air just before dawn...

Saturday, 9 February 2013

Joey Negro - Haven't You Heard

I think of Dave Lee's Joey Negro project in the same way I think of Norman Cooks Fatboy Slim persona. They both recreate classics with an unapologetic eye on the top 40. Assured, classy pop music - a very rare thing these days.

Thursday, 7 February 2013

Geater Davis - My Love Is So Strong For You

Over the years Luv N’Haight has released some of my favourite 70's reissues and this number from Geater Davis comes from a forthcoming collection of super rare material. One for the soul brothers & sisters...

Watcha Clan - Les Hommes Libres

Happened across this on SoundCloud the other day and reminded myself how much I love this band. If you don't own 'Diaspora HiFi' their 2008 album, mend your errant ways!

Alex Barck feat Pete Josef - Re-Set

First solo album from Jazzanova's Alex Barck drops later this year but first he's releasing a vinyl only selection of preview 12"s. This is the first and features a killer vocal performance from Bristols Pete Josef. An over used word but this really is QUALITY!

Wednesday, 6 February 2013

2U - Mysterious (Leftside Wobble Dub)

Pompous 90's stadium rock put through the Leftside Wobble blender...

Friday, 1 February 2013

Futureboogie Records - Marco Bernadi EP

Great EP forthcoming from my old muckers at Futureboogie.

Arthur's Landing - Miracle 2 (Strutt's Seen The Light Remix)

Finally a remix for Steven Hall's Arthur Russell inspired Arthur's Landing project that delivers on it's disco sleaze promise. Love this...

Session Victim - Airpod 21

Great disco flavoured house mix from the Session Victim boy's to bring a smile on a rather grey February morning.  :)

Thursday, 31 January 2013

Wang Chung - Dance Hall Days (Unplugged Mix)

Balearic classic given the unplugged treatment. Ace! And a free download...

Tuesday, 29 January 2013

Bufi & La Royale - Paris

Love this so much. Best Electrique Music release so far...

Jimpster - These Times (Dixon Retouch)

And continuing on the deep theme, this Dixon retouch of Jimpster is nothing short of majestic. Is it just me or does the vocalist (Jinadu) sound more than a little like a Peter Gabriel...

untitledmusic - UM146

A cracking 2 hour selection of current deep house gems impeccably mixed as ever by New Zealands 'untitledmusic' crew. Head on over to their blog for a track listing - http://untitledmusic-org.blogspot.co.nz/

Medar - Can't Stop (Creative Swing Alliance Mix)

Yet another killer EP from the Wolf stable. Whilst I'm sure the world will gravitate towards Biceps Frankie Bones style jam it's the raw jazzy deepness of Medlars 'Can't Stop' that will stay the course for me.

Monday, 14 January 2013

Cottam - Ubuntu EP

Something a little different to kick off the new year.
A track from the roots of Hip Hop culture back in 1982, given a Nu School makeover for 2013
Forthcoming on Chopshop Records some time very soon.
